Electric Kiln Firing: A very different way of working from the large 3-chambered wood-fired kiln at Muchelney Pottery, but one which allows for a quicker turnaround and the chance to explore new ideas. The electric kiln enables Nick to work with different clays which are fired to a low stoneware temperature of 1230 degrees centigrade. It has also required a completely new range of glazes that bring excitement in the oxidised firing of an electric kiln. One major change is the use of a cream glaze over white slip 'decorated' with applied coloured glazes.
